Normally, the Sounds of the Mountains Storytelling Festival offers a fantastic morning performance designed for 3rd-5th grade classes 10:00am-12:45pm, on the Friday of the regular festival in Camp Bethel’s Deerfield Gym. A sheltered picnic area with nearby restrooms is provided for your 11:10am lunch break. Students, staff and teachers need to bring a packed lunch and drink.
Fee is $6/person for students & parents; FREE for teachers, school staff & bus drivers!
Objective: Students will experience multicultural folklore, storytelling, music and traditions from a diverse group of multi-talented educators.
Standards of Learning:
3rd grade: English 3.4, 3.5, Music 3.11, 3.14
4th grade: English 4.2; Music 4.4, 4.7, 4.10, 4.14
5th grade: English 5.1, 5.4, 5.5; Music 5.4, 5.8, 5.11, 5.12
Facility: Camp Bethel is located in beautiful Botetourt County, 13 miles north of Hollins University off our Route 11. Our forests, trails, ponds, streams and meadows are perfect for learning and exploration. The Sounds of the Mountains performances will be held indoors in the Deer Field Gym and our Ark Dining Hall. The festival areas are handicapped accessible. This is a rain or shine event; performances are indoors. Lunch locations are near indoor shelters in case of rain. A Registered Nurse and a Botetourt County officer will be on call as safety resources.
