Barbara McBride-Smith has loved standing on a stage since she was 6 years old and entered her school’s annual talent show with a memorized Robert Frost poem. She didn’t win. But, the applause kept bringing her back to performing. And her family’s natural-born talent for storytelling ultimately gave her the material she needed. Nowadays her repertoire of stories transports audiences from the ancient world of the Greek deities to the post-modern experiences of her Baby Boomer generation. With a Texas-born cheerleader’s enthusiasm, she narrates the lives of uppity women and bad boys of the Bible, navigates literature and folklore with the heart and soul of an archivist, and reminds us of the good old days of rock ‘n’ roll, country music, and church hymns sung a cappella. An award-winning librarian, seminary teacher, writer, and storyteller, Barbara still loves standing on a stage and serving up sweet truth with a side of southern grit.
